Denis – Drums
Denis started playing drums early in his life, and switched to trumpet in middle school – bad idea – girl’s didn’t take notice. When the high school marching band was looking for drummers, Denis volunteered since it was an easy way to get into football games without climbing the fence. He enjoyed drums so much he started taking private lessons, and started a band. The first time out with his new band was great positive reinforcement – they took first place in a talent show with the song “Walk Don’t Run” (remember this was the 60’s). Oh yea, and girls started to notice. In college (now the 70’s) he was the drummer in a 25 piece stage band playing Big Band tunes of the 40’s – Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Gene Krupa, Harry James, Benny Goodman, and Artie Shaw. Meanwhile, his rock roots were being formed by listening to the Beatles, Buffett, Commander Cody, Grateful Dead, Peter Frampton, Led Zeppelin, and BTO. After a hiatus, 20 years dedicated to ham radio (geeky but fun), he started sitting in with local rock bands including Lost Highway, London Bridge, and also several bands in New Orleans. With a little help from his friends, MOJO was formed in 2003, and he started to play again. Oh yea, and girls started to notice. It has been great fun ever since – this year he plans on learning how to play the drums.
